Got into NYU Abu Dhabi on the first try with a $217,000 scholarship

Student request:

Ruslan dreamed of entering one of the most prestigious universities in the world — NYU Abu Dhabi, Business Management program. The competition was colossal: acceptance rate of only 4%, 14.4 thousand applications. But Ruslan was determined, and we started working at full speed.

What was before:

  • Organizing a school event nominated for a city competition.
  • Creating a small business project selling collectible figurines.
  • Volunteering as a PR manager and web designer in a startup.
  • Organizing a team for online marathons and holding one of them.
  • Certificates from Wharton Business School (Introduction to Financial Accounting, Managing Social and
  • Human Capital, Introduction to Marketing).
  • Certificates from Lingoda English language school.
  • Various sports and creative achievements.

There were many activities, but they were scattered and not completely “in line with the profile”. It was necessary to systematize the achievements and strengthen the personal brand.

What we did:

We developed a strategy that helped Ruslan stand out among thousands of candidates.

Strengthened leadership experience: President of Students’ Union, management of school projects and volunteering.

Added activities: running a business club and a school business magazine, winning school Olympiads in economics, mathematics, physics, participating in the Global Small Business Forum and the Young Activists Summit (UN).

Helped launch an educational platform for language learning.

Supplemented professional experience: HR Manager, Co-Founder and CEO in a non-profit organization, teaching in a school business and financial literacy club.

Received letters of recommendation. Thus, Ruslan worked part-time at StudyUP global, which allowed him to receive a valuable letter.

Wrote a motivational essay linking personal difficulties with an interest in education and entrepreneurship.

We systematized our achievements and submitted an application through Common App.

We identified suitable scholarships and negotiated funding.

RESULT:

Ruslan was admitted to three prestigious universities in the US and UAE at once: Lynn, Drexel, and NYU Abu Dhabi. The total amount of scholarships offered was $324,000.

Ruslan accepted an offer from NYU Abu Dhabi, receiving funding in the amount of $217,000.

This case is proof that even universities with a minimal chance of admission can be entered on the first try if you build the right strategy and develop your personal brand.
