How to apply to TUM

To enroll in a technical university of munich as a foreigner, you should understand the intricacies of the process. It may seem that it is simple and clear, but when it comes to filling out documents and submitting an application, bureaucratic nuances emerge. It is important for applicants from the CIS and Eastern Europe to understand the stages of admission to TUM:

Admission process:

Selecting level and program Плюсик

First, you need to determine what level of education you need: bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate. Then choose a direction: engineering, data science, management & technology, informatics, etc. You can study in both German and English.

Academic Profile Preparation Плюсик

On the TUM website (the official website of the Technical University of Munich) you can find detailed requirements for each program:

  • what educational documents are needed;
  • what level of language should be;
  • whether you need to take an entrance test and whether a portfolio is required.
Registration in TUMonline Плюсик

The application must be submitted through the internal TUMonline system: register on the platform, upload documents, mark the program and fill out the form.

Feeding via Uni-Assist Плюсик

In order for the equivalence of a certificate or diploma to German standards to be automatically confirmed, documents must be submitted through Uni-Assist. After verification, the documents will be transferred to the technical university of munich admission.

Results and visa processing Плюсик

If all conditions are met, the student is sent a Zulassungsbescheid – an acceptance letter. Then you can apply for a student visa and begin preparing for the move.

Requirements for admission to TUM

Certificate or diploma:For admission, you need a document confirming the completion of 12–13 years of study that meets the German standards of Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (the right to study at a university). Sometimes it is necessary to complete a preparatory year first.
Language tests:Depending on the program language: — in German TestDaF, DSH, telc C1 Hochschule; — in English IELTS or TOEFL. If the program description states “medium of instruction: English”, then studying in English is actually possible without knowledge of German, but even basic German greatly helps the student in their studies and everyday life.
Motivation letter and recommendations:For admission, foreign students require letters of recommendation and a motivational essay (Motivationsschreiben), where the student reflects his personal history and tells why he chose TUM Munich.
Entrance test/interview:Some areas require aptitude tests or interviews (especially for very competitive programs).

Important: for applicants from Ukraine there are simplified application procedures through Uni-Assist and special information programs, but academic requirements remain high.
