Maria came to us as a motivated undergraduate student majoring in graphic design, dreaming of enrolling in a master’s program in UX design in the USA. She already had a well‑formed motivation, and the key task was to properly build her profile and select the most suitable programs — there turned out to be few of them in the country.
By the time she started working, Maria already had a practical foundation in design:
Strong practical experience in graphic design required an addition of an academic and research component — this is precisely what candidates without a background in UX most often lack when applying to a specialized master’s program.
Academic and research activity. Maria participated in and published articles at the IX International Scientific-Technical Conference “Print, Multimedia & Web”, the X International Scientific and Practical Conference in Copenhagen, and the XXI International Scientific and Practical Conference in Sofia, and also presented at 7 thematic conferences.
Hard skills. I completed the Digital Marketing course by Mariam Brosseau as part of the Santander Open Academy, in collaboration with the University of Chicago — this strengthened both my academic profile and practical skills.
Volunteering and contribution to the community. I volunteered as a graphic designer for the GlivClinic network and their Skin Wellness Store cosmetic store, and I helped organize the MS Tech Summit with the support of Microsoft.
Professional projects. Created the visual style for the Bieg Bohaterów and Silesia Półmaraton event, which was held to mark the 20th anniversary of Poland’s accession to the EU; joined the delegation at the PKO Wrocław Półmarathon to represent the company at EXPO and exchange experience; and also developed a design project for product branding in cooperation with Mizuno as part of the Silesia Marathon.
Graduate work. She wrote a thesis on motivation and created a prototype of the app — the topic directly aligned with UX design, and we helped her describe this work properly in the application.
Documents and interview. Thanks to her excellent level of English, Maria wrote a strong and sincere motivation letter, and then successfully passed the interview that we prepared her for.
