Mikhail wanted to enroll in a bachelor’s program in business and economics in the USA. He already had a strong academic foundation — TOEFL 112, SAT 1540 — and a clear desire to build a socially responsible business.
Mikhail wanted to enroll in a bachelor’s program in business and economics in the USA. He already had a strong academic foundation — TOEFL 112, SAT 1540 — and a clear desire to build a socially responsible business.
By the time he started working, Mikhail already had a solid foundation:
A strong and diverse foundation combined business, economics, and social engagement — all that remained was to find an idea that would unite all of this into one coherent story.
Motivation and idea. Through the experience of traveling, where Mikhail witnessed poverty and inequality, and through researching the problem of child labor in cocoa production, they arrived at a clear motivation: to build a business that benefits not only the customer but also the people within the entire production chain.
Passion project. We developed the Happy Chocolate project — we linked it to Mikhail’s interest in economics, the topic of fair production, child labour, and honest supply chains.
Volunteer experience. We specifically highlighted and emphasized Mikhail’s volunteer experience in Ukraine — how he learned to act and organize processes in crisis conditions, which was directly linked to his idea of a socially responsible business.
Admission strategy. The initial list of universities consisted mainly of top‑tier options. The strategy was revised, adding more realistic target and safety universities — this yielded a more balanced and confident result.
Mikhail received offers from 4 universities in the USA:
Financial aid amounted to $100,000 over 4 years. Mikhail chose University of South Carolina.
