What is Foundation year
Foundation year is a one‑year preparatory programme before the main bachelor’s degree, which is either integrated into a four‑year degree or exists as a separate course with a subsequent transition to the first year of the chosen specialisation.
According to the official definition by UCAS, the international Foundation year (International Foundation Year) is designed to bring international applicants up to the level of British students — with an emphasis on the English language and key academic skills.
The programme does not replace the school certificate but supplements it where it does not meet the requirements for direct admission.
